Mountain Weekly News ~

Airblaster’s Ninja Suit is one of the coolest, most useful inventions for snowsports ever. Like ever. And it’s especially perfect if you got little shredders exploring the mountains. Sure, they’re a standard base layer with a hood. Yes, they have sick designs ranging from patterns to straight up colors. And yeah, their main use is as a snow base layer. But especially when you have a kid they’re great for so much more. From pajamas to campsite clothes, the Airblaster Ninja Suit is an indispensable piece of clothing for your little adventurer.

Let’s just start with the body of the Airblaster, or more the thing that covers your body. It’s made of Airblaster’s favorite AIR-TECH material. This is a 94% Brushed Polyester / 6% Lycra 230 g/m super soft wrapper that hugs the body close and keeps you warm better than almost any other base layer. Plus it’s freakishly stretchy. For kids it’s especially great because there’s no worry about top and bottom not lining up, and the ninja hands – you know the ones with thumbholes – ensure that it stays along their little arms when they throw their jackets on.

Finally the YKK zipper ensures it won’t break even as the little rascal zips it up and down when it’s too hot, too cold, they’ve gotta go to the bathroom (even though there are waist zippers for that, and a front crotch zipper too). Te Airblaster Ninja Suit is perfect for hanging out in.

The designs on the Airblaster Ninja Suit are unique and super fun. One of my boys got the smiley faces and the other got a dino camo one. I got my girlfriend one with fish patterns a few years ago, and then recently a black one. But these come in all sorts of patterns. The kids also had one with outer space on it and another with pizzas, and before that a black one.

Not only is this great to add some fun to the game, it’s also a great way to ensure they don’t get mixed up in the wash, a must to cut down on sibling rivalry. But since all kids love ninjas, the look of the Airblaster Ninja Suit with the hood up and the cuffs makes them look just like little snow ninjas. Especially with the embroidered shurikens on the chest. My sons love them so much that even when they’re not skiing they’re proud to rock their ninja suits.

How Comfy is the Youth Ninja Suit?

Airblaster Ninja Suits are seriously comfortable. Form-fitting but not too tight; stretchy where they need to be but not saggy. You can’t help but feel all warm and cozy and bendy when wearing the Airblaster Ninja Suit. My boys love them so much that they don’t even fight when I suggest they wear them as pajamas the night before going skiing. They also feel great wearing them around the ski resort after they’ve taken off their outerwear.

“I like how comfortable they are, and super soft but really warm,” said one of my sons, who’s known for being very sensitive to the materials that touch his skin. “They also don’t bunch up like other base layers.”

We also use them in the summer. Airblaster Ninja Suits are amazing for camping. I pack my sons’ Ninja Suits for backpacking trips so at night, when it’s time to get into comfy but moderately warm clothes, they can just jump into their Ninja Suits and run around the campfire. Regardless when or why, they never protest when they put on their Airblaster Ninja Suits. My stepson can be especially sensitive to certain materials; he LOVES his Ninja Suit.

These suits have doubled as Halloween costumes (Jackson went as Kakashi from Naruto), as Nerf battle outfits, and as to-go PJs for a sleepover (where those Ninjago PJs might seem a bit too childish). And of course they never go skiing without wearing their Ninja Suits. Like ever.

Airblaster: Run by a Group of Self-Proclaimed Board Dorks

Airblaster is a great company that has been putting the “fun” in functional for over 2 decades. Based out of Portland, they’ve been making sick shred gear since pro rider Travis Parker founded the company. We’ve been reviewing their outerwear for years but these Ninja Suits, one of Air Blaster’s most famous single products, are all-but iconic.

Airblaster Ninja Suits: Ski like a Ninja from your skin out. Base layers are probably the most important pieces of gear that people never think about. Some folks will skimp, wearing old-fashioned long underwear or cheap base layers. But this is the interface between your skin and all your protective layers. These are what you need to ensure that heat really stays in, and to ensure comfort as you load up with fleece, insulation and waterproofing. “And it’s super easy to get on before you go skiing and you’re half-asleep,” mentioned my other son, who’s more fired up for skiing but also not necessarily a morning person. “It’s quick and I don’t have to think about it. And then you have on a super cool, warm base layer.”

But really, kids really love Airblaster Ninja Suits ($100.00) because they just look rad. I mean, the dudes who collect skis from our local freeride comps are called ski ninjas. The shinobi culture has a strong presence in snowsliding. And Airblaster, being one of the masters of rad, have figured how to take that aesthetic and mix it with technical performance to made a base layer that doubles as pajamas that doubles as mission wear and camping layers and everything in between. My only advice: buy two. When your kid wants to wear it all the time while playing on epic adventures, you’ll want to make sure there’s always at least one good clean sick ninja suit ready. Because Airblaster knows that Ninja Suits make for the most badass kids on earth.
